Most Digital Product Passport vendors will not tell you what they cost until you have sat through a demo. That is a choice, not a necessity, and it makes budgeting for a rule that is not final yet harder than it needs to be. Here is what the market actually charges, based on prices vendors publish themselves.
The three price bands
Published entry prices fall into three groups.
Fashion-specific platforms that publish prices start somewhere between 350 and 749 EUR per month. At the bottom of that range you typically get one user seat and a capped number of passports. At the top you get more, but often with a separate activation fee for every tagged item on top of the platform fee.
Supply chain traceability suites start around 800 EUR per month and are usually quoted per year. These are built for brands with multi-tier supplier networks and dedicated sustainability teams. A passport is one output among many.
Generic self-serve passport generators start as low as 29 EUR per month, sometimes with a free tier for a handful of products. They cover every product category, which is exactly the problem: no fibre dictionary, no care symbol handling, no EPR export, no textile-specific calculations.
Seamdex sits deliberately outside those bands, at one flat price with every feature included. You can read the number on the pricing page without talking to anyone.
What actually drives the price
Four things, in roughly this order.
Seats. Several vendors price per user. If your sourcing team, your compliance lead and your production manager all need access, a "from" price for one seat is not the price you will pay.
Passports. Most vendors meter published passports or tagged items. Watch for whether the meter counts per style, per colourway or per size, because the same collection can produce three very different numbers. A passport per size is the honest unit: it is what a QR code on a care label resolves to.
Activation fees. A per-item fee on top of the subscription is common and rarely quoted up front. Ask for it explicitly, and ask whether it applies to every size or only to the style.
Onboarding. Implementation fees of several thousand euros are normal in this market, and six to eight weeks of onboarding is a typical promise. That cost is real even when it is described as free, because it is your team's time.
The questions to ask before signing
- What is the total for my actual number of users and passports in year one, including any activation fee?
- Is the passport count per style, per colourway or per size?
- What happens to my published passports if I cancel? Do printed QR codes keep resolving?
- Do the GTINs and product data belong to me, and can I export everything without asking?
- Is the REST API included, or does it sit behind a bigger plan?
- What does onboarding actually involve, and what does it cost if it runs long?
What we think a fair price looks like
A brand publishing a few hundred passports a year should not be paying enterprise money, and should not have to guess what it will owe. That means one number, every feature behind it, a passport unit that matches what a customer scans, and no fee for the act of putting a code on a garment.
It also means the price should survive the regulation changing. When the textile delegated act lands, the data you have already structured should carry forward without a compliance surcharge. If a vendor cannot promise that, ask why.
