The same record that produces a passport also produces what goes on and in the garment.
Care label PDFs
A care label PDF carries the standardised care symbols, the fibre composition in every passport language, the care text in the vetted languages, and the economic operator details that a label must show.
Open a published product and choose the care label download. The PDF is generated from the current published snapshot, so it matches the passport.
The physical label is still mandatory. The Textile Labelling Regulation is under revision and digital labelling is one option being discussed, but until a revision is adopted the printed label stays.
QR code sheets
A QR sheet contains one code per size, each labelled with its size and barcode, laid out for printing.
Each code is a GS1 Digital Link URL. The same code can be read by a consumer's phone and, as retail scanners move to 2D codes, by a till.
Size QR codes and style QR codes
Every published size gets its own QR code. It carries that size's GTIN, the barcode number, so it identifies exactly one article: this style, in this colour, in this size. Use it on the garment's care label or hangtag and anywhere a shop scans stock.
You can also switch on a style QR on the Passport page, under QR Codes. A style QR covers one colour of a style across all its sizes and opens the passport with every size listed. It suits places where one code has to serve every size:
- a single printed label used across all sizes of a colour
- identifying a shipping carton that holds mixed sizes
A style QR carries no size GTIN. A till, a stock scanner or any system that works per GTIN cannot tell the size from it, so it is not a replacement for the size codes in store. Keep the size codes on the garments and use the style QR alongside them.
Style QRs do not change your plan count; passports are counted per style.
What to send a label supplier
Label bureaus generally want a file per size with the code and the text. Export the QR sheet and the care label PDF for the style, and send both.
Two things to agree with them:
Where the code goes. A hangtag is thrown away; a care label survives the garment. If the passport is meant to be useful for repair or resale, the code belongs on something permanent.
Size and contrast. A QR code needs a quiet zone around it and enough contrast to scan after washing. Your bureau will have minimum sizes for woven and printed labels.
Packing lists
From a purchase order you can generate a packing list per shipment, with quantities per style, colour and size, and the carton figures.
The packing list's export also prints carton stickers. Prefilled stickers come from the saved list: one per packed carton and colour, with the quantities per size, Total PCS, the carton number and the gross weight of the box. Blank stickers, one per style and colour, leave the quantities and weights to be written in; the same blank stickers are on the price tags page. Each sticker carries the economic operator, the style name and number and the style QR of that colour.
Test before the print run
Print one label at the real size, wash it if you can, and scan it with an ordinary phone camera. Two minutes of testing has saved entire print runs.
