The product editor is where a draft becomes a passport. It saves as you type, calculates as you go, and shows a live preview of the passport beside the form.
How the editor is organised
Tabs run in the order you will use them.
Basics is identity: style number, style name, colour, barcode, HS code, country of origin and the quantities per size.
Identity is the parties: the economic operator responsible for placing the garment on the EU market, the assembly factory, and the wash plant where relevant.
Composition is the garment itself: fabric layers or knit blocks, their weight, width and consumption, and the fibres in each with their percentages and origins. This is where most of the calculation comes from.
Trims covers buttons and zippers, each with a material and weight, and the sewing thread with its material.
Packaging covers the polybag, hangtag, silk paper, carton and anything else that travels with the garment.
Wash and Care is the care symbols and any extra care text.
Performance is test results: dimensional change, spirality, appearance grades, and environmental figures where you have them.
Compliance is the declarations and certificates.
Two tabs sit apart at the end. Missing Data lists everything still standing between this draft and a publishable passport. Report shows the calculated figures.
Use the libraries
Most fields do not need typing twice. Suppliers, fabrics, yarns, packaging bundles and size guides live in your libraries, and the editor loads them in.
Load a fabric and its composition, weight, width and supply chain come with it. The loaded record stays linked, so editing it in the library updates it here, and unlinking leaves the values in place.
Build the library once at the start of a season and the second product takes a fraction of the time the first one did.
What is calculated for you
Never type a number the record can produce. Seamdex calculates:
- garment weight from fabric weight, width and consumption, plus trims
- fibre breakdown by weight across every layer
- recycled content, both of the whole garment and of the fabric alone
- packaging weight per garment, per box and per shipment
- a robustness score and a recyclability score from your composition and test results
- a microplastic flag where synthetic content crosses the threshold
Calculations run on the server, so the figure on the passport is the figure the rules will be checked against.
Missing Data
Open the Missing Data tab at any point. It lists what is absent, groups it by the tab it lives on, and links straight to the field.
A product can be published when nothing on that list blocks it. Some items are warnings rather than blockers, for instance a certificate that a fibre claim would benefit from.
Light and Full
Each product has a mode. Full publishes the whole record. Light publishes a reduced passport, useful when a supplier has not delivered everything yet and you still want a working QR code.
You can switch a product between modes at any time and republish.
Getting suppliers to fill the gaps
If a fabric composition or a certificate has to come from a supplier, do not chase it by email. Give them a partner login scoped to the products they are involved in, or send a supplier import template. See invite a partner.
